Technical Services
Expert advice when technical challenges arise.
The best technical solutions are the ones that integrate seamlessly into great design
Whether resolving installation challenges, compliance issues or complex design requirements, we provide independent technical advice to achieve practical, long-lasting soloutions.
Why Independent Advice Matters
When a fireplace isn't performing properly, it's common to receive conflicting advice. An installer may blame the product, the supplier may blame the installation, and the builder may blame the finishing.
Independent advice helps identify the real cause before you spend money on unnecessary repairs or replacement.
Why choose Designs for Fires?
Having worked on both the manufacturer and technical support side of the fireplace industry, I understand how fireplaces are designed to perform, how they're tested, and the issues that commonly arise once they're installed. That broader perspective allows me to identify the underlying cause of fireplace problems and recommend practical, code-compliant solutions—without being tied to a particular manufacturer or installer.
Over more than 20 years in the fireplace industry, my experience includes eight years with Stovax, working with fireplace design, testing and product performance across Australia and New Zealand, followed by several years leading technical support at The Fireplace. During that time, I specialised in diagnosing and resolving technical issues involving Gazco gas fireplaces, as well as wood and electric fireplace installations throughout New Zealand.
